Physical play, on a bone-chillingly cold day, figures to be on display when Duke and Pittsburgh meet in ACC football on Saturday.

Winners of three consecutive ACC games for the first time since 2015, the Blue Devils (7-3, 4-2 ACC) have the No. 2 rushing offense (203.8 yards per game). Pittsburgh’s rushing defense, allowing 97.7 yards per game, is No. 2 in the ACC.

With temperatures forecast to be around 30 degrees with a 13-mph wind blowing for the noon kickoff at Pittsburgh, the battle of wills looks likely.

“Definitely the first thing we talked about was that Pitt is, I think, they’re (a) leading rushing defense in ACC right now,” Duke junior running back Jaylen Coleman said. “They definitely have that going for them. But I mean, we have a really strong run game as well. So we definitely want to be able to go out there and challenge them.”

Led by quarterback Riley Leonard’s 625 yards and 10 rushing touchdowns, the Blue Devils have surpassed 200 yards rushing in six games this season. Duke leads the ACC in rushing touchdowns (27).

Pittsburgh’s defense has allowed just one rushing touchdown over its past four games, all against ACC opponents. Those four teams (Louisville, UNC, Syracuse and Virginia) have averaged 56.3 rushing yards per game.

Duke will play without reserve running backs Jaquez Moore and Terry Moore (no relation) due to injuries. Coleman returned to gain 50 yards on 13 carries in Duke’s 24-7 win over Virginia Tech last Saturday. Coleman had missed the previous four games with a leg injury.

Jordan Waters (522 yards, eight touchdowns) leads Duke in rushing and touchdowns among its running backs.
