  • Scheyer won two ACC titles and reached a 2025 Final Four, boosting program stability.
  • Scheyer holds an 89-22 overall record with 48-12 in ACC regular-season play.

A second ACC championship, this one in dominant fashion, and a first Final Four berth earned Jon Scheyer more stability as Duke’s basketball coach.

Scheyer and the school agreed to a contract extension on Thursday, adding two more years on to his deal so it covers the 2030-31 season, Duke announced.

“Jon’s remarkable impact over his first three seasons has positioned Duke basketball for sustained excellence, and we are proud to ensure his leadership well into the future,” Duke athletics director Nina King said in a staement. “He has delivered championships and national prominence, and he continues to lead a program built on character, connection and a relentless pursuit of greatness. Jon’s vision for Duke basketball aligns perfectly with our highest aspirations, and we couldn’t be more excited for the future of this program under his leadership.”

This is the second time Duke has extended the 38-year-old Scheyer’s contract since he took over the program in 2022 following Hall of Fame coach Mike Krzyzewski’s retirement. After Scheyer led Duke to the 2023 ACC Tournament title in his rookie season, he and Duke agreed to a six-year extension in October 2023.

A former team captain as a Duke player who was also an assistant under Krzyzewski, Scheyer’s overall head-coaching record is 89-22 (.802 winning percentage), including 48-12 in ACC regular-season play. Last season, Duke finished 35-4 while going 19-1 in the ACC regular season before winning the ACC Tournament in Charlotte.

Scheyer’s 89 wins over his first three seasons as head coach are only matched in college basketball history by current Boston Celtics general manager Brad Stevens, when he coached Butler, and current Illinois coach Brad Underwood, who accomplished it during his time at Stephen F. Austin.

Scheyer is the first coach in ACC history to win two league championships over his first three seasons. He owns the distinction of winning ACC titles as a coach and a player, having led Duke to the league title in 2010 when the Blue Devils also won the NCAA championship.

The contract extension announcement comes one day before the Blue Devils take the court at Cameron Indoor Stadium for their Countdown to Craziness event, including a public scrimmage, on Friday night.
