Fans, coaches, players react to Duke’s loss to Miami

Reaction to the end of Duke’s 30-27 loss to Miami, which ended with an eight-lateral possession, a Hurricanes’ touchdown and botched calls by the officials.

▪  “Unfortunately there is no mechanism in place, that I know of, to reverse the outcome of a game.”

Duke coach David Cutcliffe

▪  “The quality of our officiating program is of the highest importance to the league and its schools, and the last play of the game was not handled appropriately.”

ACC Commissioner John Swofford

“If we want to get it right, let’s get it right. Otherwise, let’s not have replay.”

Duke coach David Cutcliffe

▪  “I was hoping the game was over. What happened happened. You can’t play the ‘What ifs?’ What if we did this? What if we did that? You take it for what it is.”

Duke senior center Matt Skura

▪  “We were really at a loss because we didn’t know what was going on. But what the ref ultimately did say didn’t go in our favor. We just have to move on from it.”

Duke safety Jeremy Cash

“There was a flag on the field. I was just waiting to see where the ball would be spotted. You’re just kind of nervous. You don’t know what’s going to happen. It was a long wait. It felt longer than it probably was.”

Duke safety DeVon Edwards

▪  “At the end of the day, we got the win. So no matter what they say, we won. That’s all that matters.”

Miami defensive back Corn Elder

Frankly I’m just super excited about the makeup calls coming next weekend in a game that matters for something.

Last thought: the Canes probably deserved to win. But not as a gift from refs #Duke stood around like they’d never heard of tackling.

I don’t understand anything about college football anymore #DukeMiami

Those #DukeMiami refs...like the ’72 Olympics I tell ya.

BTW Miami would happily take the L from Saturday if you give them the 2003 Fiesta Bowl in exchange.
