No team wants to be giving injury updates on the eve of the season, but at least in Duke’s case they aren’t serious.

Matt Jones is recovering well from the groin injury that kept him out of Wednesday’s 119-54 exhibition win over Livingstone. He’s expected to be ready to go for the Nov. 13 season opener against Siena.

Jones originally injured himself in Duke’s first exhibition game, a 112-68 win over Florida Southern on Oct. 30.

Amile Jefferson has a sprained left ankle and is still day to day, but the good news for him was that X-rays came back negative, meaning he doesn’t have a fracture.

Jefferson injured himself in the first half of Wednesday’s game. The hope is that he, too, is back for next week’s season opener.

There isn’t much depth in Duke’s frontcourt, where Jefferson and Plumlee are expected to play most of the minutes.

The Blue Devils have a few more options on the perimeter, where Luke Kennard and Derryck Thornton can play alongside Grayson Allen and Brandon Ingram.
