Observations
Yale, which was picked to win the Ivy League during the preseason, lost by just a 71-69 margin at SMU on Sunday. The Bulldogs shared the regular-season league title with Harvard last year but lost to the Crimson 53-51 in a one-game playoff to determine which team received the league’s NCAA Tournament bid. Justin Sears is the reigning Ivy League player of the year and is tied with Makai Mason, the point guard, for the team lead in assists (47).
Brandon Sherrod, a senior, was a starter in the 2013-14 season before taking a year off of basketball to tour internationally with the Yale Whiffenpoofs, a widely renowned collegiate a cappella group.
