N.C. State has named Ben Broussard as Bobby Purcell’s successor as executive director of the Wolfpack Club, the school’s athletic booster organization, it was announced Tuesday.

Purcell, who has held the position since 1991, announced in December that he would retire at the end of the school year.

Broussard, a former U.S. Marine, served as assistant vice chancellor of advancement and senior associate athletic director at the University of Colorado. He headed the Buff Club, the school’s athletic fund-raising organization.

“Early in this process, Ben stood out, both based on his significant background and accomplishments, but also his vision for the Wolfpack Club and NC State Athletics,” NCSU athletic director Boo Corrigan said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to have Ben join our team and lead our fundraising efforts.”

A graduate of LSU, Broussard, 42, was vice president for development at LSU. His marketing and sales strategy helped sell more than $45 million in premium seat inventory and raise funds to repair and refurbish Tiger Stadium.

“NC State athletics has a tremendous history filled with some of the most passionate and generous fans in the country,” Broussard said in a statement. “I look forward to developing strong relationships with our supporters and building on the successes and legacy of Bobby Purcell and to continue to provide world class support for Wolfpack student-athletes.”

Broussard, a native of Lafayette, La., lettered in basketball and baseball in high school and was a member of the LSU club rugby team. He graduated from LSU with a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in 1999 and earned his masters of science degree in 2001.
