N.C. State’s Larrell Murchison drafted by Tennessee Titans
The selection of defensive tackle Larrell Murchison continues the trend of defensive linemen from N.C. State being drafted into the NFL, Murchison became the 12th pick since 2018 for the Wolfpack.
Murchinson was taken in the fifth round of the NFL draft on Saturday, with the 174th overall pick.
At 6-2, 297 pounds, Murchison can move around and play multiple spots along the defensive line. His senior year at State, Murchison earned second-team All-ACC honors. He led the team with 12 tackles for loss and seven sacks in 12 starts. He had 3.5 sacks versus Florida State his senior year. Had 48 solo tackles as a senior.
He was a JuCo All-American at Louisburg College before transferring to N.C. State. In his last year at LC he finished with 41 tackles, 17.5 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. His team went 9-0 and Murchison was ranked the No. 42 JuCo player in the country.
He arrived in Raleigh in 2017 and took a redshirt that season, waiting in the wings behind future pros B.J. Hill and Justin Jones. Murchison learned a lot just sitting and watching those guys for a full year.
“Just how they prepared, how serious they take it,” Murchison said. “It just hit me and just made me into a better player.”
Murchison became a starter for the Wolfpack in 2018 and everything took off. He started every game in 2018 and was named the team’s defensive lineman of the year as well as the most improved player. As a senior he had seven sacks and 12.0 tackles for loss. His production earned invites to the Senior Bowl and the Scouting Combine, where he was lucky enough to perform in front of NFL scouts.
