NC State starting linebacker Payton Wilson out tonight against Virginia Tech

N.C. State will be without starting linebacker Payton Wilson tonight versus No. 20 Virginia Tech.

Wilson, a redshirt sophomore, did not make the trip. He was injured last week against Wake Forest. Wilson, who led the team in tackles in 2019, was the leading tackler against Wake Forest in the opener, finishing with 10 tackles (8 solo) and four tackles for loss.

However, on the Demon Deacons first drive of the fourth quarter Wilson made a solo tackle, left the field and never returned.

Wilson (6-4, 240) played in 11 games (one start) in 2019 and led the team with 69 tackles. He missed the game against Louisville last season with an injury.

Vi Jones or C.J. Hart will start in Wilson’s spot against the Hokies.
