NC State baseball finds new season-opener opponent after series with VMI canceled
N.C. State baseball has a new opponent for its season-opener.
The Wolfpack was scheduled to host VMI Friday through Sunday in Raleigh, but the series was canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the Keydet program.
N.C. State was able to find a replacement for this weekend, and will now play Davidson in a doubleheader at 1 p.m. Sunday at Doak Park. The games will be on ACC Network Extra.
The Pack saw its season cut short last winter when the coronavirus pandemic was just starting and with so much talent returning,
Coach Elliott Avent’s 2021 roster features six top 100 players in the Division I baseball power rankings, including the No. 3 ranked shortstop (Jose Torres); the No. 5 first baseman (Austin Murr); the No. 9 catcher (Luca Tresh) and the No. 9 outfielder (Tyler McDonough).
After Sunday, N.C. State’s is scheduled to play UNC-Greensboro Tuesday on home. The Pack jumps right into ACC play next weekend with a home series scheduled against Georgia Tech.
Wolfpack baseball games this season are limited to 100 fans who were either 2020 season ticket holders or students.
