NC State-Louisville Live Blog: Devin Carter gives NC State late lead

N.C. State (5-2) hosts Louisville (4-3) in an ACC Atlantic Division battle.

The Wolfpack is coming off a 31-30 defeat on the road versus Miami last week. The Cardinals defeated Boston College 28-14. Can N.C. State get back in the win column, or does Louisville make it two in a row?

Devin to Devin connection

Devin Leary hit Devin Carter for a 12-yard touchdown with 5:53 remaining to put N.C. State up 8. It was the second fourth quarter touchdown pass for Leary and the first touchdown grab of the day for Carter.

Pennix = six

Trent Pennix, the former running back now playing tight end, snuck off the line and found himself all alone for a 29-yard touchdown catch on the Pack’s first drive of the fouth quarter, giving N.C. State a 13-10 lead with 14:26 remaining.

Louisville 10, NC State 7: End of third quarter

N.C. State had six drives end in punts as they head to the fourth quarter down by three. Louisville connected on a 42-yard field goal in the third quarter for the only score so far in the second half.

James Turner field goal

After missing a chip shot in the first half, Louisville kicker James Turner connected on a 42-yard field goal to start the second half. The kick gave the Cardinals a 10-7 lead over N.C. State with 11:15 remaining in the third quarter.

NC State 7, Louisville 7: Halftime

Neither team could find the endzone as both N.C. State and Louisville went scoreless in the second quarter. The Cardinals put together a 13-play drive to move into Wolfpack territory, but Malik Cunningham was sacked by Savion Jackson on the last play of the half.

N.C. State picked up 166 yards in the first half and went three-and-out on three of their four drives in the second quarter.

Shyheim Battle picks off Cunningham

Malik Cunningham took another shot on the N.C. State secondary, but Wolfpack corner back Shyheim Battle wasn’t having it. Battle picked off Cunningham, for the first turnover of the game. N.C. State did not have a forced turnover last week and now has nine interceptions this season.

N.C. State 7, Louisville 7: End of first quarter

N.C. State racked up 128 yards on two drives to go over 7-0 over Louisville after one quarter of play. Senior wide receiver Emeka Emezie caught two passes for 44 yards on the second drive of the quarter, the final 19 from Devin Leary going for a touchdown. Louisville drove down to the one on its opening drive, but missed a field goal on fourth and five.

The Cardinals made up for it, as Malik Cunningham hit Jordan Watkins for a 76-yard score on the final play of the first quarter.
