What NC State coach Kevin Keatts said about Manny Bates’ shoulder injury
N.C. State secured a dominant 88-70 win Tuesday against Bucknell but may have suffered a significant loss in the process in the form of star forward Manny Bates.
Bates, a junior, left the game 58 seconds in after he injured his shoulder chasing a loose ball.
After the victory, Wolfpack coach Kevin Keatts addressed Bates’ injury, but had few details pending results of medical tests.
“I don’t have an update on Manny Bates at this present time. I don’t want to speculate on anything,” Keatts said. “He’s going to have an MRI done. And as soon as we get any results — and as soon as I talk with him and his family — we will share it.
“But I don’t know anything. And I don’t want my mind to go to the worst situation. So, I have no idea what the situation is. I just look forward to getting the results. And I’ll keep praying for him.”
Bates averaged 9.8 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.7 blocks last season as a sophomore.
The Wolfpack will next play Colgate at 2 p.m. Saturday in Raleigh.
