EMEZIE FOR SIX, AND TWO
Devin Leary found Emeka Emezie for a touchdown in the back of the endzone and the ensuing two-point conversion to make it a one-score game. Emezie had three catches on the drive.
WAKE FOREST 31, NC STATE 27: END OF THIRD QUARTER
The third quarter between Wake Forest and N.C. State had it all. There was a long kickoff return for a score, turnovers and big plays. As the two teams headed to the fourth, the Demon Deacons led the Wolfpack by four.
BATTLE CALLED FOR TARGETING
N.C. State cornerback Shyheim Battle was called for targeting in the third quarter. Battle led with his helmet on a tackle of Taylor Morin. Battle, who had an interception in the first half, will have to miss the first half next week versus Syracuse.
WAKE FOREST WITH THE ANSWER
N.C. State couldn’t get off the field on 4th and 9, and Sam Hartman made them pay, finding tight end Brandon Chapman three plays later for a 5-yard touchdown.
KNIGHT TO THE HOUSE
Zonovan Knight took the opening kickoff of the second half 100-yards to the end zone, giving N.C. State its first lead, 27-24.
WAKE FOREST 24, NC STATE 20: HALFTIME
Wake Forest, like N.C. State, took advantage of some good field position, ending the first half on a 45-yard field goal by Nick Sciba as time expired. After a late score by the Wolfpack, Taylor Morin returned the ensuing kickoff 43 yards to the N.C. State 49. Three plays later, the Demon Deacons kicked a field goal and took a four-point lead into the locker room at the half.
ONE PLAY DRIVE
After a big kickoff return to the Wake Forest 28 by Zonovan Knight, Devin Leary found Emeka Emezie on N.C. State’s first play from scrimmage for the score. N.C. State trailed Wake Forest by eight.
TURNOVER INTO POINTS
After Traveon Redd recovered a Devin Carter fumble, Sam Hartman needed just one play to score. Hartman rushed in from the five to put Wake Forest up 21-6 with 1:54 remaining in the first half.
TEAMS TRADE INTERCEPTION
After Devin Leary threw an interception to Wake’s Gavin Holmes, Shyheim Battle got the ball back for N.C. State, picking off Sam Hartman on the ensuing drive. It was the second interception of the year for Battle.
QUICK STRIKE IN SECOND
Wake Forest only needed three plays to score in the second quarter. After a 34-yard gain from Sam Hartman to Ke’Shawn Williams, Justin Ellison punched it in from the 1-yard line. Wake leads N.C. State 14-6.
WAKE FOREST 7, NC STATE 6: END OF FIRST QUARTER
N.C. State settled for two field goals, while Wake Forest found the endzone and was driving to end the first quarter. The Wolfpack had four penalties in the first half, including three on the Demon Deacons scoring drive. Sam Hartman hit A.T. Perry for a 24-yard touchdown on Wake’s third drive of the game. Late in the first quarter N.C. State had two players - Daniel Joseph and Davin Vann - leave the field with injuries.
DUNN 2-FOR-2
Another N.C. State drive ended in a Christopher Dunn field goal, this one from 46 yards. The Wolfpack moved into Wake territory, but stalled on third and nine when Devin Leary’s pass to C.J. Riley fell incomplete.
WAKE FOREST FINDS THE ENDZONE
Wake Forest took advantage of three N.C. State defensive penalties and found the endzone for the first time when Sam Hartman hit A.T. Perry for a 24-yard touchdown. The Pack was called for holding, offsides and pass interference on the drive. The interference called took away a Devon Betty interception.
DUNN IS GOOD FROM 28 YARDS
Christopher Dunn connected on a 28-yard field goal to end the first drive of the day for the Wolfpack. N.C. State’s defense forced a three-and-out on Wake first possession.
STATE DOWN A MAN THIS WEEK
N.C. State defensive end Savion Jackson, who left during the first quarter of last weeks win over Florida State, did not dress out for the Wake Forest game. Jackson was wearing street clothes and a brace on his knee for the final three quarters versus the Seminoles. Davin Vann will get the start for the Wolfpack.
