NC State women’s XC earns historic national title. Here’s how the Wolfpack won the crown

Paint the Bell Tower red and get ready for the ring sizing, a national title is making its way back to Raleigh.

By the time the N.C. State football team is done with its game against Syracuse, fans can go welcome back their latest national title team.

The Wolfpack cross country team won its first ever national title in Tallahassee on Saturday, picking up 84 points to defeat Florida State. It’s the third cross country title in school history, first under the auspices of the NCAA. N.C. State won back-to-back AIAW Championships in cross country in 1979 and 80. The title is additionally the first by an ACC women’s team since Virginia won back-to-back titles in 1981 and 1982.

Kelsey Chimel was the team’s and ACC’s best finisher with a time of 19:34.6.

Katelyn Tuohy (19:43.1), Alexandra Hayes (19:48.2), Hannah Steelam (19:49.6) and Samantha Bush (19:52.9) rounded out the scoring for the Pack for team totals. All five of the Pack’s top finishers that counted towards the team score earned All-America honors.
