Four-star tight end from North Carolina commits to Dave Doeren, NC State football
N.C. State football head coach Dave Doeren has added a third commitment from the class of 2023.
Havelock (North Carolina) High School tight end Javonte Vereen verbally committed to the Wolfpack Friday, posting the announcement on his Instagram page.
The 6-foot-4, 205-pound Vereen joins Heritage quarterback Lex Thomas and West Charlotte offensive lineman Darion Rivers in the class of 2023.
Vereen also had offers from Louisville and Maryland.
Last season for the Rams, Vereen had more than 1,000 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns. He also had 45 tackles, two interceptions and two forced fumbles on defense.
A three-sport star, Vereen averaged 7.8 points per game and 5.5 rebounds for the basketball team and batted .421 for the Havelock baseball team.
Vereen is the No. 11 player in the state, according to 247Sports composite rankings. He’s ranked as the No. 17 tight end in the nation.
