Three former N.C. State players were on rosters to start WNBA training camps.

None of them will make it to the season opener.

One day after Elissa Cunane and Raina Perez were waived by the Seattle Storm, Kayla Jones was one of six players waived by the Minnesota Lynx.

Jones was selected No. 22 overall by the Lynx during the WNBA draft last month.

Jones, a native of Jamesville, played 15 minutes, scoring six points in Minnesota’s first preseason game against Washington. She followed up that performance with a scoreless outing in 11 minutes of action against Las Vegas on Sunday.

The 6-1 forward bounced back from an offseason knee surgery to start 34 games as a fifth-year senior. Jones played five seasons at N.C. State, appearing in 139 games (second in school history) with 88 starts.

Jones was often called the glue of the team several times by head coach Wes Moore. She was a second-team all-ACC selection, voted on by the head coaches.

Jones averaged 8.7 points per game as a senior. In the N.C. State record books, she is 11th in 3-point percentage (.355), 14th in free throw percentage (.725) and 14th in rebounds (734).

Cunane and Jones became the 17th and 18th players in N.C. State history to be selected in the WNBA draft. Perez was invited to training camp as a free agent.
