Raina Perez’s time away from the WNBA didn’t last long.

Nine days after being waived, Perez will be returning to the Seattle Storm.

The team announced on Wednesday that Perez will be signed to a hardship contract. No terms of the deal were released. A hardship contract is a temporary roster spot granted by the WNBA. That allows teams to exceed the 15-player roster when at least four players are expected to miss more than two weeks.

Perez is eligible to play right away for the Storm (1-1).

An undrafted free agent, Perez signed with Seattle just before training camp, reuniting with former N.C. State teammate Elissa Cunane. Perez scored 13 points in two preseason games before being waived.

Perez transferred to N.C. State ahead of the 2020-21 season. She averaged 9.0 points per game in two seasons, shooting 37% from 3.

Perez cemented herself in N.C. State history with two of the biggest plays in recent history. In 2021 Perez hit the game-winning shot in the ACC tournament title game against Louisville. In the Sweet 16 game against Notre Dame, Perez got a steal and a layup with 14 seconds remaining to put the Pack ahead by one. She then hit two free throws to seal the win.
