While the sky over Raleigh turns red, white and blue on July 4th, N.C. State will be lighting the bell tower red.

Dave Doeren and the Wolfpack secured another local verbal commitment, this time from Rolesville athlete Tamarcus Cooley.

Cooley (6-0, 195) verbally committed to N.C. State on Monday, posting the news on his social media platforms.

“I’m humbled by all the coaches and football programs that believed in me enough to offer me and spent time getting to know me,” Cooley wrote. “With that being said, I’m proud to say that I’m staying home and I have fully committed to North Carolina State University Football.”

He picked N.C. State over Louisville, where his brother Trevion is a running back, UNC, ECU, Ole Miss, Appalachian State and Minnesota.

Cooley transferred to Rolesville after playing his first three seasons at Knightdale High.

He was a two-way player for the Knights who had 765 total yards and nine scores on offense as a wide receiver and part-time running back in 2021. He averaged 10.2 yards per carry as a running back and 16.2 yards per catch as a wideout. As a defensive back, Cooley had 51 tackles and two interceptions. Cooley also averaged 35.1 yards as a kick returner.

Cooley becomes the ninth commitment for Doeren in the class of 2023 and the sixth in-state player. He’s the second player from the Triangle to commit, joining Heritage quarterback Lex Thomas.

A three-star prospect according to 247Sports, Cooley is listed as the 27th best prospect in the state. Doeren has now secured commitments from six of the top 30 players in North Carolina.

Later in the day, N.C. State got another commitment, this time from Fort Lauderdale, Fl. safety Daemon Fagan. The four-star prospect from American Heritage picked the Pack over offers from Ohio State, LSU, Penn State and Georgia, among others.

Fagan (6-2, 180) had 28 tackles and two interceptions as a junior.
