When N.C. State last played a football game, the day brought bad results for the Wolfpack.

Not only did Syracuse beat N.C. State 24-9 on Oct. 15, but the Wolfpack learned they’d be without starting quarterback Devin Leary for the remainder of the season.

Since then, the Wolfpack (5-2, 1-2 ACC) enjoyed a break with an open week that allows it to focus on the remaining five games, starting with Thursday night’s ACC game with struggling Virginia Tech at Carter-Finley Stadium.

No. 24 N.C. State retained its national ranking and carries a 14-game home winning streak into the matchup with the Hokies (2-5, 1-3 ACC). Though Leary, the preseason ACC player of the year, had surgery to repair his torn pectoral muscle, he’s still around the program encouraging quarterbacks Jack Chambers and M.J. Morris as they work to fill in for him.
