NC State basketball receives commitment from 7-1 center Isaiah Miranda
Some big-time help is on the way for the N.C. State basketball team.
Isaiah Miranda, a 7-foot-1 center and four-star recruit, announced Wednesday on CBS Sports HQ that he had committed to the Pack, would be on campus next week and soon begin playing.
The commitment came a day after the Wolfpack’s Dusan Mahorcic suffered a knee injury in the game against Coppin State. Mahorcic, a rugged 6-10 post player, started nine of the Pack’s first 10 games.
N.C. State coach Kevin Keatts did not have an update on Mahorcic’s condition after the 94-72 win and there was no further update Wednesday.
Miranda, who will be 19 in January, is expected to begin practicing with the team and play in the second semester. The Pack goes to Miami on Saturday for an ACC game, then has nonconference games against Furman (Dec. 13) and Vanderbilt (Dec. 17) before returning to ACC play.
Miranda, from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, has been playing at Southern California Academy in Castaic, California and competed in the Rhode Island Elite summer program. Other schools he considered included Georgetown, Kentucky and Louisville. He is ranked 30th nationally in the 2023 class by 247Sports.com, but reclassified to the class of 2022.
“I feel like I’m ready to be developed by Coach Keatts and his staff,” Miranda told Adam Finkelstein on CBS Sports HQ and 247Sports. “They have a long history of developing pros in the past, and I feel like I can be up next. I feel like their fast-paced offense and how determined they are on defense, it fits my game really well. I’m a big energy guy. I’m ready to go to work. I’m passionate about work.”
