NC State athletic director Boo Corrigan extended as College Football Playoff chairman
A year as chairman of the College Football Playoff selection committee was demanding but also rewarding for N.C. State’s Boo Corrigan.
Corrigan, the Pack’s athletic director, also will do it again. It was announced Wednesday that Corrigan will continue as CFP chairman for another year, through the 2023 season.
“He did an outstanding job leading the committee last year, serving as an efficient manager inside the room and an effective spokesperson to the media and fans,” CFP executive director Hancock said Wednesday in a statement,
Corrigan was first appointed to the CFP selection committee in 2021, then named chairman of the 13-member group in 2022.
The job required him to be away from NCSU and his family in Raleigh for an extended period in September, October and November as the committee met to make its weekly Top 25 rankings. After the rankings were released each week on ESPN, Corrigan was responsible for fielding questions on the selections from the ESPN college football panel.
“Every week that you go in there, you have a clean sheet,” Corrigan said in an ACC Now podcast in September with the News & Observer. “You don’t go in there, you’re not relying on what you did the last week. You owe to college football fans, you owe to the coaches, you owe to the players, every single week you go in there with a new evaluation.”
The committee selected Georgia, Michigan, Texas Christian and Ohio State for the 2022 playoffs. Georgia was a convincing winner in the national championship game against TCU.
“It was a privilege to serve as the committee chair last year,” Corrigan said in a statement. “I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside an outstanding group of individuals who are deeply committed to college football, and I am honored to be asked to return to that role again for the 2023 season.”
The CFP executive committee on Wednesday also named three new members for the selection committee: Chris Ault, former head coach and athletic director at Nevada; Jennifer Cohen, athletic director at Washington; and David Sayler, athletic director at Miami of Ohio.
