One of N.C. State’s most impactful defensive ends announced on Thursday he plans to redshirt the remainder of this season with the intent of entering the transfer portal in the offseason.

Sophomore Jy’Keveous “Red” Hibbler announced his intentions via his agents , according to ESPN. Hibbler was removed from the Wolfpack roster last week, ahead of the Northern Illinois game. No details were given, but a source close to the program said at the time Hibbler was considering the option of redshirting and transferring.

Hibbler, a senior, led N.C. State in sacks last season (6.5) and ranked No. 9 in the ACC and finished with seven total tackles for loss. In his four games this season, he recorded six tackles. He joined the Wolfpack last season after spending time on the junior college level and was listed on the depth chart at right end behind Travali Price.

Two Wolfpack players, running back Jordan Houston and quarterback MJ Morris, took similar routes last season when they decided midseason to redshirt before entering the transfer portal.

Hibbler will have one season of eligibility remaining.

Neither N.C. State football nor Hibbler have released statements regarding the decision.
