NC State football losing second offensive player, starter in transfer portal
A second N.C. State football player plans to enter the transfer portal when it opens on Wednesday for the spring window.
Wide receiver Dacari Collins told On3 this week he planned to enter the portal, the second Wolfpack player to unexpectedly announce his departure at the conclusion of spring football.
Collins transferred to N.C. State after two seasons at Clemson and has one season of eligibility remaining after playing just three games in 2022-23.
He played two years with the Wolfpack, recording 526 receiving yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 13.8 yards per catch in that time frame.
Collins’ overall production increased slightly during the 2024 season when he recorded 314 yards compared to 212 yards the season prior. However, he finished with two touchdowns each season and his yards per reception dropped from 15.1 yards to 13.1 yards.
The NCAA lists Collins as a junior due to his redshirt season at Clemson. He is originally from Atlanta and was expected to be in the starting receiver corps this season, playing alongside Wesley Grimes, Noah Rogers, Keenan Jackson and Jonathan Paylor.
Collins joins Kendrick Raphael, the sophomore running back, in the spring transfer portal. Both signed agreements in December with One Pack NIL — they are not legally binding — to signify their returns. Collins shared the report of his transfer on his social media pages.
More than 20 players have now transferred from N.C. State or have indicated their plans to leave.
Players had an opportunity to enter the transfer portal in December. The winter window was open from Dec. 9-28. They have a second opportunity beginning Wednesday and lasting through April 25.
In the future, coaches and administrators hope to see one transfer window in early January to help with roster management and reduce uncertainty.
