  • Wolfpack finished regular season 7-5; earned Gasparilla Bowl invite.
  • Transfer portal opens Jan. 2–16; RB Hollywood Smothers intends to enter.
  • NCAA only features one portal window, but players can announce at any time.

N.C. State ended the regular season with a 42-19 rivalry win over North Carolina. The Wolfpack moved to 7-5 overall and 4-4 in ACC play after winning three of its last four games. It went on to beat Memphis, 31-7, in the Gasparilla Bowl to finish the season with an 8-5 record.

Athletic Director Boo Corrigan confirmed ahead of signing day last week that head coach Dave Doeren will return for a 14th season. Corrigan has cited player development, the team’s culture and consistency when publicly supporting Doeren.

It has limited attrition, but the later transfer portal window has postponed players’ decisions. Quarterback CJ Bailey previously told reporters he would speak with his family after the bowl game to discuss his future. Bailey and the program jointly announced on Jan. 2, the date the transfer portal opened, that he will return to the program for his junior season.

The transfer portal closes Jan. 16, but players were allowed to announce immediately whether they intended to leave the program. This is the only transfer portal window for football after the NCAA approved eliminating a second spring transfer window in an attempt to curb the year-round attrition and uncertain roster management.

Follow along with the players who plan to leave N.C. State and those who commit to play for the Wolfpack. It will be updated as necessary.
