N.C. State men’s basketball and new head coach Justin Gainey have picked up a second portal commitment for the upcoming season.

Preston Edmead, a 6-foot-1 point guard who played last season at Hofstra, committed to the Wolfpack on Saturday morning, he told On3 Sports. Edmead shared a hype video on his Instagram account that was filmed during his official visit to Raleigh.

Edmead earned Coastal Athletic Association Rookie of the Year and Second Team All-CAA honors this season, averaging 16.1 points, 3.5 rebounds and 4.4 assists per game.

He helped Hofstra go 24-11 overall and 12-6 in CAA competition, including wins over the ACC foes Pittsburgh and Syracuse, and an NCAA Tournament appearance.

During the CAA Championship run, Edmead averaged 20.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and three assists. He scored a career-best 26 points in the title game against Monmouth. In the semifinal game against Towson, Edmead made the game-winning 3-pointer with 3/10ths of a second remaining.

Hofstra led Alabama by as many as 10 points in the first half of its NCAA Tournament First Round game, before a second-half push by the Crimson Tide. During the 90-70 loss, Edmead scored 24 points on 46.2% 3-point shooting. It was his third straight 20-point game and eighth double-digit scoring performance in the Pride’s final nine contests.

Edmead hails from Deer Park, New York, and attended Williston Northampton in Massachusetts for his senior year of high school, where he led the team to a New England Prep School Athletic Council championship and received Player of the Year recognition.

He also attended Deer Park High School and Scotland Prep. During his high school career, Edmead earned All-League honors and was part of two league championship teams at Deer Park. Edmead also played in the Nike EYBL circuit.

The incoming sophomore was an unranked high school recruit but listed as a four-star transfer, according to 247Sports.

A solid scorer and distributor, Edmead joins Santa Clara transfer Christian Hammond in the N.C. State backcourt.
