Maryland four-star transfer Darius Adams committed to N.C. State on Wednesday evening, after recently visiting Raleigh. He is the first transfer to come from another Power 4 program.

“Took a while, but I got everything I prayed for,” Adams wrote in his announcement.

He is a rising sophomore from Manchester, New Jersey. Adams is expected to have three seasons of eligibility remaining, though he could have four depending on the result of the NCAA’s “5 in 5” eligibility proposal.

Adams averaged 10.8 points — fourth on the team — 3.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game as a rookie. He only shot 35.4% from the field and 24.8% from 3, with 12 games of a sub-30% shooting percentage. Adams’ upside, however, looks positive. He shot at least 40% from the field in 11 games, and at least 50% in seven. He went 6 of 7 from the floor in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament and scored 14 points.

Listed at 6-5 and 190 pounds, Adams has the size N.C. State wants. The staff can work on creating more consistency in his shot.

Adams was a five-star and top-25 recruit in high school, according to 247Sports. He was a McDonald’s All-American and Jordan Brand Classic participant. At the time, he was recruited by Connecticut, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina and N.C. State. He made an official visit to Raleigh in September 2024, following the program’s ACC Championship and Final Four run.

He originally signed with UConn in November 2014 but reopened his commitment last spring, committing to Maryland on April 29, 2025.

His addition provides solid depth to the roster and experience against Power 4 programs. Adams has a relationship with first-year head coach Justin Gainey after visiting Tennessee during his recruitment. He also has relationships with current women’s basketball player Zoe Brooks and former guard Devyn Quigley. Brooks is from Plainfield, New Jersey, as is Quigley.

N.C. State now has six transfer players, one high school commit and confirmed returner Zymicah Wilkins.
