N.C. State freshman Will Richardson was reinstated by coach Dave Doeren on Monday after a one-game suspension.
Richardson, 19, was arrested by the Raleigh Police Department on a driving while impaired charge on Nov. 1 near Hillsborough and Gardner Streets. Richardson has a court date in Wake County scheduled for Jan. 19 for the DWI charge and driving after the consumption of alcohol and being under the age of 21.
Richardson, a redshirt freshman from Burlington, started the first eight games of the season. He missed Saturday’s 24-8 win over Boston College while serving his suspension.
Under university rules, Richardson is subject to being suspended for a semester for getting a DWI charge near campus. Other N.C. State athletes, in basketball and football, have received similar punishments in recent years.

Doeren did not elaborate on Richardson’s longterm status. Richardson’s name was on the weekly depth chart and Doeren was asked about his availability.
“I reinstated Will, so he’ll have a chance to earn his right back on the field,” Doeren said.
Redshirt freshman Tyler Jones started in Richardson’s place against the Eagles. Doeren said the two will compete in practice this week for the starting spot on Saturday at No. 19 Florida State.
