NC State moves football season-opener two days earlier

N.C. State’s 2016 football season will start two days earlier than previously expected. The Wolfpack moved up its opener with William & Mary to Thursday, Sept. 1.

The game time has not been announced. The last time N.C. State did not open the season on a Saturday was the 2012 Chick-fil-A Kickoff against Tennessee in Atlanta. That game was played on the Friday before Labor Day and a portion of the N.C. State fan base complained about the timing and its effect on the holiday weekend.

By moving the William & Mary game to Thursday, the school hopes to allow its fans to attend the game and maintain their holiday weekend plans.
