NC State adds nonconference football opponents
N.C. State announced home-and-home football games with Vanderbilt, Texas Tech and Connecticut on Tuesday.
The first of the six games will be played in 2022 and the last in 2028.
The Wolfpack has been criticized for its recent nonconference schedules but has already made upgrades with the addition of South Carolina (2017), West Virginia (2018 and ’19) and Mississippi State (2020 and ’21).
The ACC also has an agreement with Notre Dame, a conference member in all sports but football, which will play N.C. State four times over the next 10 seasons, including the first meeting between the programs in Raleigh in 2016.
The ACC also agreed to schedule at least one opponent from another “Power 5” conference (SEC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12) starting in the 2017 season. The games with Vanderbilt (2026 and ’28) and Texas Tech (2022 and ’27) help on that front.
