NC State basketball adds another forward
N.C. State’s basketball roster keeps growing. The Wolfpack signed another top 75 recruit on Friday with the addition of forward Ted Kapita.
Kapita, a 6-8 and 240-pound power forward from the Congo, is rated as the No. 56 player in the recruiting class by 247 Sports’ composite rankings.
Kapita joins point guard Dennis Smith (No. 7), forward Omer Yurtseven (No. 25) and guard Markell Johnson (No. 58) in the 247 Sports rankings. N.C. State coach Mark Gottfried also signed forward Darius Hicks in the five-man class.
Kapita averaged 12 points and 7 rebounds per game at DME Academy in Melbourne, Fla. last season.
“Ted is a versatile and athletic addition who plays with a high motor, is a relentless defender and can rebound,” Gottfried said in a statement released by the school on Friday. “He can also stretch defenses with his ability to knock down shots on the perimeter.”
The addition of Kapita gives N.C. State 12 scholarship players on the roster, the most Gottfried has had at any point during his six-year tenure.
With forward Lennard Freeman scheduled to redshirt for the 2016-17 season, Kapita gives Gottfried a five-man rotation for two post spots with senior BeeJay Anya, junior Abdul-Malik Abu, Yurtseven and Hicks.
Kapita signed with Arkansas last year but did not qualify academically and ended up at DME Academy for a fifth year of high school.
Earlier this year, Kapita had committed to SMU but changed his mind after a recent recruiting visit to N.C. State.
