Every game for No. 18 North Carolina so far has been a learning experience both for the players integrating five new faces into the lineup and for Hubert Davis, getting used to his seat as the head coach.

This weekend presents the biggest challenge so far for the Tar Heels (3-0) starting with No. 6 Purdue on Saturday at the Hall of Fame Tipoff in Uncasville, Connecticut. They will face the winner or loser of No. 5 Villanova and No. 17 Tennessee on Sunday.

“What we’re learning about our team is how we’re going to handle success, how we’re going to handle adversity,” Davis said. “Those are the things that we learn about our team. I’m just excited that for the opportunity to play in a tournament like this against unbelievable teams, and great programs and coaches.”

Carolina has already faced three different styles of play in its opening games, but what it hasn’t played was a team that will try and slow the tempo down. Both the Boilermakers (239) and Villanova (336) operate at a much slower pace than UNC (47), according to KenPom.com.

“All of our players are excited about this chance about this opportunity,” Davis said. “And looking forward at the end of the weekend, not only being successful, but feeling good about where we’re going as a team.”
