North Carolina stumbled right out of the Associated Press Top 25 poll after losing to Purdue and Tennessee over the weekend. The pair of losses in the Hall of Fame Tipoff exposed the Tar Heels (3-2) biggest flaws in the process.

Carolina ranks 134 in adjusted defense, according to KenPom.com. The only season the program ranked lower was during its 8-20 season in 2001-02 — the first season Ken Pomeroy posted his advanced analytics — when UNC was 168.

Needless to say, that’s unacceptable for the Heels with No. 20 Michigan coming to Chapel Hill next week. Expect to see a much better defensive effort from Carolina Tuesday night against UNC-Asheville.
