North Carolina landed a big in-state piece for its 2023 recruiting class Friday.

UNC landed a commitment from 2023 four-star defensive end Jaybron Harvey over South Carolina, Louisville and Oklahoma, among others. Harvey is rated the No. 188 player and No. 25 edge rusher in the 2023 class, per the 247Sports Composite.

“High-level athlete with excellent burst at snap,” 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brian Dohn wrote about Harvey in February. “Twitchy prospect gets off quickly and stay lows while eating up space in first few steps. Plays standing up and with hand on ground. Has motor and works to fight through double teams.”

Harvey recorded 28 sacks and 129 tackles in 2021, helping Southern Durham High School to a North Carolina 3A playoff appearance. He also projects to play bigger than his current size at 6-foot-3, 215 pounds once in a college weight program.

UNC head coach Mack Brown has now landed a trip of defensive linemen in the 2023 class in Harvey, four-star Virginia standout Joel Starlings and three-star edge rusher Tyler Thompson out of Cary.
