North Carolina Tar Heels upset by Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Coastal Division game

No. 13 North Carolina is back at Kenan Stadium for the first time since its win over Pittsburgh on Oct. 29. The Tar Heels (9-1, 6-0 ACC) take on Georgia Tech (4-6, 3-4) in a proverbial trap game with their spot in the ACC championship against Clemson secured and rival N.C. State awaiting next week in the regular season finale.

Hall TD run: GT 21, UNC 17. 4Q

Hassan Hall scored on a 6-yard run as the Jackets took their first lead of the game. The drive took nine plays and 81 yards.

Phommachanh TD run: GT 14, UNC 17. 3Q

The Yellow Jackets avoided disaster when Malachi Carter recovered a Jamie Felix fumble to keep possession of the ball. Quarterback Taisun Phommachanh capped off the 68-yard drive with a 4-yard scoring run.

Smith TD run: GT 7, UNC 17. 2Q

Hassan Hall’s 36-yard reception set up a 2-yard scoring run by Dontae Smith.

Green TD run: UNC 17, GT 0. 2Q

Tigh end Bryson Nesbit’s 36-yard catch and run set up a 1-yard touchdown run by Elijah Green, his second of the game.

Noah Burnette kicked a 31-yard field goal when Carolina’s drive stalled inside the 10.

Georgia Tech kicker Gavin Newsome missed his first field goal attempt of the season on a 45-yarder. Holder David Shanahan didn’t get the ball down clean and Newsome’s attempt did not get any air under it. Newsome was previously 12-for-12 on field goals.

Elijah Green ran an 80-yard touchdown on their first play from scrimmage.
