NC State Athletics Director Boo Corrigan gets new contract. What we know so far
N.C. State Athletics Director Boo Corrigan received a new contract this week, school officials announced Friday.
The university’s board of trustees approved the new contract, which runs through June 2029, during a closed session of its meeting on Thursday.
N.C. State first appointed Corrigan to his role in April 2019, agreeing to a five-year deal worth $1.05 million a year. Corrigan’s contract was extended through 2026 in May 2021, and then again in April 2022. That most recent contract was set to run through 2027, and included increased compensation — to slightly more than $1.2 million annually — and a potential bonus of $300,000, according to a school spokesperson at the time.
According to a copy of the agreement obtained via a public records request, Corrigan’s new deal sets his base salary at $713,125 and has stipulations that will boost his income by an additional $700,000 annually for fundraising and media requirements, use of his name, image and likeness and apparel, equipment and services. The supplemental income will be paid in quarterly.
Corrigan’s base salary will increase by $50,000 on July 1 of each year the contract remains in force.
In addition, Corrigan can earn up to $300,000 annually in performance bonuses tied to the athletic department’s academic and athletic achievements, including graduate success rate, academic progress rate, football bowl appearances, ACC championship game appearances in football and men’s and women’s basketball, NCAA tournament appearances for men’s and women’s basketball, ACC championships in sports not including football and basketball and national championships in any sport.
“Under Boo’s outstanding leadership, N.C. State Athletics is experiencing new levels of competitive, academic, and financial success,” Chancellor Randy Woodson said in a news release. “We are fortunate to have such an experienced and well-respected leader to help us navigate through the ever-changing landscape of college athletics.”
The Wolfpack has had significant success in the past year, including finishing No. 19 nationally in the Learfield Director’s Cup Division I athletics all-sports rankings.
Corrigan’s new contract includes paying him a $50,000 bonus for a top-10 director’s cup finish and $25,000 for a top-25 finish.
N.C. State earned its third straight NCAA women’s cross country championship in November, while last spring the women’s basketball team earned an NCAA Tournament appearance for the sixth consecutive tournament, men’s basketball made its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2018, baseball received an NCAA Tournament berth.
Overall in 2022-23, the Wolfpack won a combined total of 37 individual and team titles on the conference and national levels. Four N.C. State teams won ACC titles in 2022-23 (cross country, men’s swimming, wrestling, and women’s tennis), while six teams finished in the top 10 nationally. N.C. State was one of just eight Division I schools to advance to the postseason in all of its “Big Four” sports: football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, and baseball last year.
The Wolfpack football team qualified for the Pop-Tarts Bowl in December after ending the regular season on a five-game winning streak.
“I appreciate Chancellor Woodson and the Board of Trustees for their continued trust and support and to our coaches, staff, and student-athletes who work tirelessly every day to strengthen our Pack,” Corrigan said in a release.
N.C. State is currently No. 19 in the Learfield Director’s Cup all-sports standings at the midway point of this academic year.
Corrigan received the Cushman & Wakefield Athletics Director of the Year award for 2021-22 from the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics, recognizing N.C. State’s overall success.
Corrigan has also served on the College Football Playoff Selection Committee after being appointed in 2021, working as the group’s chairman in 2022 and 2023.
