Top UNC basketball recruit reaffirms commitment after Tar Heels coaching change
Top-25 recruit Maximo Adams, a 6-foot-7 small forward from Sierra Canyon, California, who committed to UNC under former head coach Hubert Davis is not de-committing from North Carolina, ESPN reported earlier today. Adams will join the team this upcoming season as a freshman for head coach Michael Malone’s first year in Chapel Hill.
Adams emerged this summer as one of the fastest-rising prospects on the Nike EYBL circuit. Playing for Vegas Elite, Adams averaged 20.5 points, 11.4 rebounds and shot overall 42% from three — production that vaulted him into blue-blood territory.
After suffering a knee injury as a sophomore, Adams returned to help Sierra Canyon capture a state championship. Adams has showcased a versatile, physical style of play with three-level ability, advanced footwork and a dependable mid-range game. Defensively, he projects as a switchable forward who can guard up a position and also rebound at a high level.
The Tar Heels are still awaiting a decision from five-star guard and incoming freshman Dylan Mingo, who also committed to North Carolina under Davis.
