North Carolina and transfer big man Maxim Logue are parting ways, a source confirmed to The N&O, ending a brief stint in which Logue had been part of the Tar Heels’ 2026 transfer class.

As previously reported by Inside Carolina, Logue’s status has been up in the air due to complications in his pre-enrollment process at North Carolina.

A spokesperson for UNC athletics declined to comment on Logue’s status on Wednesday, as Logue has not signed a revenue sharing agreement with North Carolina — the equivalent of a national letter of intent at the high school ranks. Logue’s agent has not responded to multiple requests for comment from the N&O over the course of two days.

Logue, a 6-foot-9, 232-pound post player from Lyon, France, committed to UNC last week during a busy portal stretch under first-year coach Michael Malone. His departure leaves the Tar Heels with four transfer additions so far: guard Terrence Brown (Utah), forward Neoklis Avdalas (Virginia Tech), guard Matt Able (N.C. State) and forward Cade Bennerman (Northwestern).

Logue spent last season at Florida Atlantic, averaging 4.8 points and 3.1 rebounds while shooting 67.4% from the field in a limited bench role. He also played previously at Oregon State. His size and 7-foot-4 wingspan projected him as a developmental frontcourt piece and potential depth option in UNC’s rotation.

With Logue no longer in the fold, North Carolina’s frontcourt plans remain in flux as Malone and his staff continue to evaluate options — largely overseas.

Fortunately for UNC, its frontcourt outlook got a boost with the Tuesday night commitment of center Sayon Keita, an 18-year-old Mali native playing for FC Barcelona in Spain’s top league. Keita is a projected 2027 NBA lottery pick with professional experience overseas who, at this point, seems the likely choice for Malone at starting center.
