Matt Able officially signs with UNC basketball. What about the NBA Draft process?
N.C. State transfer Matt Able has officially signed his paperwork to join North Carolina for the 2026-27 season under new head coach Michael Malone, multiple sources confirmed to the N&O Thursday.
Able, a 6-foot-6 wing from Baltimore, committed to UNC on April 21. He still remains in the 2026 NBA Draft process, multiple sources confirm, after earning an invitation to the NBA Draft Combine set to kick off next week in Chicago.
Players like Able have until May 2027 to withdraw from the draft and retain college eligibility.
As a freshman at N.C. State, Able averaged 8.8 points, 3.4 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 21.7 minutes per game. He appeared in all 34 games off the bench, shooting 41.6% from the field and 35.5% from 3-point range.
One of Able’s top performances came against the Tar Heels on Feb. 17, when he scored 19 points and knocked down five 3-pointers in a Wolfpack win in Raleigh.
Able, who played at Sagemont Prep in Florida, was a highly regarded recruit out of high school and has three years of eligibility remaining. At UNC, he projects as a versatile perimeter piece who will likely be in charge of secondary ball-handling duties. His ability to defend multiple positions is also a plus for Malone’s staff.
Unless his draft stock significantly rises during the pre-draft process, Able is expected to enroll at UNC this summer.
