T.J. Jiles, a senior cornerback at North Carolina, was arrested early Sunday morning and charged with simple assault after an incident outside the Mirage Nightclub in downtown Raleigh, according to police records.
UNC announced later on Sunday that Jiles, a reserve who has played in eight games this season, had been suspended indefinitely for a violation of team rules.
Jiles’ arrest came several hours after the UNC football team left Raleigh with a 45-34 victory at N.C. State. The victory was the 11th consecutive for the Tar Heels, who play against Clemson next weekend in the ACC Championship game.
Jiles, a native of Cape Coral, Fla., played on special teams in the victory at N.C. State. He has made one tackle this season.
