Observations
Virginia Tech was picked to finish 14th in the ACC’s preseason poll but the Hokies have been far from a pushover in conference play. They’d won four of five conference games before an 83-81 loss at Notre Dame on Wednesday. Virginia Tech hasn’t necessarily thrived in any one aspect of the game, but it leads the nation in free throw rate and often creates scoring chances at the free throw line. UNC coach Roy Williams is one victory short of his 350th win at UNC. He won 418 games at Kansas and would become the first coach in history to win at least 350 games at two schools.
