UNC freshman forward Armando Bacot goes down with an ankle injury. Here is the latest.

North Carolina freshman forward Armando Bacot suffered a left ankle injury in the first half of the Tar Heels’ game against Ohio State on Wednesday.

Bacot came down on an Ohio State player’s foot and rolled his ankle. He appeared in serious pain and had to be helped off the floor by two teammates. He did not put any weight on his left foot.

He did not return to the game.

UNC coach Roy Williams said it was a sprained ankle that was swollen by the time he made it to the locker room.

“My guess is he’ll be out a while,” Williams said.

Bacot, a 6-10, 235-pound forward, was coming off his best performances of the season last week against Oregon. He scored 23 points, had 12 rebounds and six blocks.

Bacot’s injury is a huge blow to the Tar Heels, who are already thin at forward. Behind Bacot are juniors Brandon Huffman and Walker Miller, who are both averaging less than five minutes per game.

The Tar Heels may choose to go small.

Bacot entered the game averaging 11.7 points per game, and 9.6 rebounds, which led the team. He was also shooting 56 percent from the floor.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
