North Carolina assistant head football coach Tim Brewster is leaving for a new job.

Brewster is leaving UNC for Florida, a UNC spokesperson confirmed. Football Scoop was the first to report the news.

Brewster was the first coach hired under Mack Brown after he was hired in November 2018. He had previously been an assistant coach under Brown at UNC from 1989 to 1997 and at Texas from 1998 to 2001.

In his most recent position, he served as the assistant head coach and tight ends coach.

Brewster was also one of the lead recruiters for the Tar Heels, who boasted the 19th best recruiting class in the country in 2020, according to 247sports’ team rankings.

Brewster was previously a candidate for an assistant coaching job at Texas A&M after the 2019 season, but turned it down. Brewster was known for his heavy presence on social media and support for the Tar Heels.

He tweeted about UNC as recently as Sunday, which was also his last tweet.

“The best players in North Carolina have a great reason to be Tar Heels #TimeisNow,” he tweeted.

Brewster has had a number of stops in his 30 years as a coach. He was previously an assistant coach at Texas A&M in 2018. He spent four years at Florida State from 2013 to 2017 as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator. He also spent time as Mississippi State as a wide receivers coach, and Minnesota as its head coach.

At Mississippi State, he served under Dan Mullen, who is currently the head coach at Florida. He also spent five seasons in the NFL as an assistant coach after his stint at Texas.
