Ohio State, Maui Invite included on UNC basketball’s 2020-21 non-conference slate
North Carolina’s basketball program will face a number new teams and some familiar ones in the 2020-21 season, while traveling as far as Hawaii.
The News & Observer made a public records request for UNC basketball’s game contracts for the 2020-21 non-conference slate.
UNC will complete the final game of its three-game contract with Elon and UNC-Wilmington, and a start a new three-game contract with Mounmouth, which is coached by former UNC player King Rice. Rice played four seasons under Dean Smith from 1987 to 1991.
The Tar Heels will play Ohio State in the CBS Sports Classic in December. The venue for that game was not listed on the contract.
UNC will also play in the Maui Invitational in November, where it could face either Alabama, Indiana, Davidson, Providence, Stanford, Texas and/or UNLV.
The Tar Heels’ schedule is not complete. UNC will likely add one more non-conference game from the ACC-Big Ten Challenge. The conferences typically announce those matchups in the summer. UNC hosted Ohio State last year at home in that game.
