North Carolina senior forward Brice Johnson on Monday received first-team All-American honors from the U.S. Basketball Writers Association, which means that Johnson's No. 11 jersey will be honored in the Smith Center rafters.

Johnson, who was also a unanimous first-team All-ACC selection, leads the Tar Heels with an average of 16.6 points and 10.6 rebounds per game. Johnson is the second current UNC player who will have his jersey honored after leaving school.

Marcus Paige's No. 5 jersey will be honored, too, after he received second-team All-American honors from The Sporting News during his sophomore season. Paige and Johnson will become the 50th and 51st players in school history to have their jerseys honored in the rafters.

Eight of those jersey numbers are retired. For a jersey to be honored in the Smith Center rafters a player must meet one of the following criteria:

-First- or second-team All-America by the Associated Press, NABC, USBWA or the Sporting News.

-ACC Player of the Year.

-Most Valuable Player of NCAA Tournament winning team.

-Most Outstanding Player of the NCAA Final Four.

-Olympic gold medalist.
