Blue Devils to host open practice at Cameron

The Duke men’s basketball team will host an open practice on Saturday from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at Cameron Indoor Stadium.

Doors to Cameron Indoor Stadium will open for spectators at 8:30 a.m.

All seating for the open practice will be in the upper bowl of Cameron Indoor Stadium.

General public parking for the open practice will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis in the Circuit Lots located on Circuit Drive. The lots will open at 7 a.m. There will be a $10 charge to park (cash only).

Mike Krzyzewski is set for his 42nd season as a head coach and 37th at the helm of the Duke program after leading the U.S. Men’s National Team to its third consecutive gold medal at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

Football

Wake Forest: Demon Deacons safety Jessie Bates was named the Atlantic Coast Conference’s Defensive Back of the Week. Bates led the team with eight tackles and recovered Indiana’s final onside kick with 11 seconds remaining in the game.

Duke: The accolades continued for redshirt freshman quarterback Daniel Jones, who was named a Davey O’Brien “Great 8” quarterback and Manning Award Star of the Week on Monday. Jones threw for 290 yards and three touchdowns in helping Duke to a 38-35 victory at Notre Dame on Saturday.

Earlier Monday, Jones was also selected as the ACC’s Rookie of the Week.

Also on Monday, Blue Devils return specialist Shaun Wilson claimed ACC Player of the Week honors.

Campbell: After leading the Camels to an overtime win in its Pioneer Football League opener, De’Shawn Jones has been named honorable mention FCS Offensive Player of the Week.

Jones totaled 174 yards on the ground Saturday, including 25 on his final touchdown run in overtime, lifting Campbell (3-1, 1-0 Pioneer Football League) to a 33-27 win over Butler in its PFL opener.

The senior’s 174 rushing yards are the third-most in a single game in Campbell history, trailing Jones’ own 201-yard performance at Davidson and 189 yards against Pikeville last season.

Elon: After a 27-10 victory over William & Mary, a pair of Phoenix players were honored with weekly CAA Football awards on Monday. Junior Demetrius Oliver was selected as the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week, while freshman Khalil Moore picked up co-Rookie of the Week accolades.

St. Augustine’s: On Monday, linebacker Larry Blanton III and coach Tim Chavous were honored by the CIAA. Blanton was named Rookie of the Week, and Chavous was selected Coach of the Week.

Volleyball

Wake Forest: Demon Deacons outside hitter Caroline Rassenfoss was named the Freshman of the Week by the ACC.

The award is the Demon Deacons’ first weekly award since teammate Caroline Wolf received Co-Player of the Week in October of last season. Kylie Long was the last Demon Deacon to receive the ACC Freshman of the Week accolade when she received the honor in November of 2014.

Men’s Tennis

Wake Forest: Incoming freshman Alex Lazarov claimed the Serbia F8 Futures title on Sunday with his fifth straight victory at the event.

Slated to join the Deacons for the spring semester in January, Lazarov was ranked No. 927 heading into the tournament.

Elon: Mario Paccini and Felipe Sarrasague faced challenging competition last weekend at the Southern Intercollegiate, hosted by the University of Georgia. Each player faced ranked opponents in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association top-75 during the tournament in both singles and doubles play.

Paccini highlighted the weekend with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Christian Langmo of Miami in the round of 64. Sarrasague had a challenging first match in the main draw, matching up against the draw’s No. 1 seed and the ITA’s No. 11-ranked singles player, Michael Redlicki of Arkansas.

After falling 6-1, 6-2 to Redlicki, Sarrasague picked up two singles wins in the consolation draw defeating Anton Waern of Georgia College 6-2, 6-1, and Ignacio Hernandez of Armstrong State 6-3, 6-2.

Men’s Soccer

N.C. State: The Wolfpack returns to action for two straight home matches this week. First on the schedule is a visit from Wright State on Tuesday evening. Kickoff between the Wolfpack and Raiders is set for 7 p.m.

Duke: The Blue Devils will play against Georgia State Tuesday at home. Duke is looking for its fourth win of the year after tying Pittsburgh 1-1 Friday night. Tuesday’s game will kick off at 7p.m. at the Koskinen Stadium.

Campbell: Edward Fulwood was named the Big South Conference Freshman of the Week on Monday. Fulwood tallied three points on a goal and an assist as Campbell finished 1-1 this past week.

Men’s Golf

Wake Forest: Monday play at the 2016 Primland Collegiate Invitational was canceled as fog prevented first- and second-round play at the Highlands Course at Primland. The tournament has been shortened to an 18-hole event, with one round starting Tuesday at 9 a.m.

Women’s Soccer

Campbell: Camels freshman forward Alexa Genas was named the Big South Freshman of the Week, on Monday. Genas led the Camels with four points in the 6-2 victory over the Presbyterian Blue Hose Saturday afternoon.
