College Baseball Roundup: Geoghegan, Charlotte 49ers shut out NC State Wolfpack

Sean Geoghegan, paired with relievers Micah Wells and Logan Sherer, combined to toss a four-hit shutout as Charlotte blanked N.C. State 1-0 on Friday.

Geoghegan retired eight of the last nine hitters he faced in six innings, allowing three hits setting another career high with six strikeouts.

Brett Netzer had two hits for Charlotte (2-2).

Chance Shepard went 2-for-4 with a double for the Wolfpack (4-3). Cory Wilder took the loss, working five innings with four hits, three walks and four strikeouts.

ACC

North Carolina 4-5, Rhode Island 3-3: Benton Moss struck out 10 in seven shutout innings and Trent Thornton posted a pair of five-out saves for the Tar Heels (6-2) in their doubleheader sweep in Florence, S.C.

Rhode Island falls to 0-5.

Clemson 11, South Carolina 4: Weston Wilson hit two home runs for the host Tigers (6-2).

Wil Crowe gave up 11 hits, nine runs and struck out six in six innings to take the loss for the Gamecocks (6-2).

American

East Carolina 5, Albany 1: Evan Kruczynski pitched seven scoreless innings and Luke Lowery hit his fourth home run for the host Pirates (3-4).

Albany is 1-3.

Big South

Winthrop 8, Jacksonville 7: Kyle Edwards had four RBIs, including a two-run home run, to lift the host Eagles (4-3).

Jacksonville is 5-4.

Campbell 7, Miami (Ohio) 2: Steven Leonard homered and Heath Bowers struck out eight to lead the host Camels (6-2).

Miami fell to 1-5.

Coastal Carolina 4, West Virginia 3 (13): G.K. Young hit the game-winning home run for the host Chanticleers (6-2).

West Virginia is 3-5.

Southern

Wofford 9, Harvard 2: Kody Ruedisili had three hits for the host Terriers (8-1).

Wofford broke a 1-1 tie with five runs in the third inning .

Harvard fell to 0-1.

Sun Belt

Maryland 4, Appalachian State 2: Zach Hummel hit a home run for the Mountaineers (3-4) in Emerson, Ga.

The Terrapins improved to 6-1.
