N.C. State wrestler reaches NCAA final
After defeating Connor Medberry 6-3in the 285-lb. semifinal, N.C. State wrestler Nick Gwiazdowski (34-0) advanced to Saturday night’s final match against Michigan’s Adam Coon.
▪ In a 141-lb. semifinal, Kevin Jack fell for the first time to 3-time champion Logan Stieber of Ohio State 12-2.
UNC: In the 165-lb. semi, Indiana’s Taylor Walsh beat Ethan Ramos’ 5-0 with riding time.
Duke: Iowa State’s Kyven Gadson rode out the third period to beat Conner Hartmann 4-1 in the 197-lb. semi.
TRACK & FIELD
Duke: The Blue Devils had five wins at the Carolina Relays, including two from Stephen Boals (men’s shot put and discus).
Christine Streisel won the women’s javelin with a throw of 47.44 and Thomas Lang won the men’s at 66.30. Maddie Morrow was first in the women’s high jump at 1.70.
UNC: Sarah Howard won the women’s shot put at the Carolina Relays at 16.25 meters and Hannah Christen won the women’s 2,000 steeplechase at 6:47.30. In the men’s 3,000, Logan Carroll won at 8:41.85, and Karley Rempel took first in the women’s event at 9:44.94.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
UNC: The No. 1 Tar Heels (18-0, 6-0) defeated visiting Syracuse 7-0.
N.C. State: The visiting Wolfpack fell to Miami, 6-1, falling to 9-7, 0-5 ACC. The Canes are 10-3, 5-0.
BASEBALL
Duke: Andy Perez blasted a three-run home run to break a 2-2 tie in the fifth and host Duke (17-5, 3-4 ACC) held on to beat Pittsburgh, 5-3.
North Carolina: Korey Dunbar’s two-run homer in the ninth was the difference as UNC (13-8, 4-3) won a 5-3 thriller over host Georgia Tech (15-6, 4-3).
SWIMMING
N.C. State: The Pack set a school record in the 200 medley relay (1:37.09) at the NCAA Women’s Championships.
Duke: At the NCAA Championships in Greensboro, Isabella Paez tapped the wall in the 100-yard butterfly at 53.62 to move into fourth on the Blue Devils’ all-time list.
