Walter, Wake Forest agree to contract extension

Wake Forest baseball coach Tom Walter has received a contract extension through the 2024 season.

“I couldn’t be more pleased that Tom has accepted this contract extension,” Wake Forest athletic director Ron Wellman said. “He has been a proven developer of young men on the field, in the classroom, and in life. Following an extremely successful season, we look forward to assisting Tom and the program in taking the next step forward towards their goal of a College World Series.”

“Wake Forest is a special place, and I am honored to be a small part of this wonderful community,” Walter said. “I am very grateful for the commitment Ron Wellman has made to our program, our staff, and me personally. Under his leadership I look forward to many great years of Deacon baseball.”

Walter has led the Demon Deacons to six straight winning seasons, including back-to-back NCAA regionals. In 2017, Wake Forest hosted and won the Winston-Salem Regional and finished a game away from the College World Series, wrapping up the season with a 43-20 record, best since 2002.
