Tyler Ramirez, UNC Tar Heels baseball win 8-7 at Clemson

Tyler Ramirez drove in five runs and smacked his fourth home run of the year and North Carolina held on for a wild 8-7 ACC baseball win against Clemson on Sunday afternoon at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

North Carolina rallied from a 4-0 hole to lead 8-4 in the seventh after the Ramirez homer, but Clemson got the potential tying runs aboard in the ninth against Trent Thornton. The UNC junior, who got out of a bases-loaded jam in the eighth, struck out Reed Rohlman and Chris Okey to end it.

Elon: Six first-inning runs was all the Phoenix needed in claiming a series win against visiting Northeastern, winning 6-3.

Duke: No. 12 Miami’s Enrique Sosa, Daniel Briggi and Ryan Otero combined on a three-hitter and the host Hurricanes defeated Duke 10-0 in the ACC series finale.

Women’s Golf

UNC: The team shot a 314 in the final round of the Bryan National Collegiate to finish 14th with a 934 total. The Tar Heels were led by Lexi Harkins and Leslie Cloots, who both fired a 5-over 77 at the par-72 Bryan Park Champions Course in Greensboro.

Women’s Lacrosse

Elon: Trailing by six goals in the second half, the team rallied to pull within two but was unable to complete the comeback, falling 8-6 to Delaware. The Phoenix (7-5, 0-2) took nine shots in the game, all on goal.

Softball

Elon: The team suffered a 7-1 home loss to Towson.

The Phoenix (23-12, 5-4) saw its chances of capturing its second Colonial Athletic Association series of the year fall to the Tigers (15-16, 2-7) after Towson exploded for five runs in the first two innings.

Alaina Hall went 2-for-3 for Elon and had the lone RBI. Hannah Olson, Aly Quintana and Kara Shutt recorded the other hits for Elon.

Men’s Tennis

UNC: The 19th-ranked team topped No. 35 Notre Dame 5-2 at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels improved to (16-8, 5-3 ACC), and the Fighting Irish fell to (12-9, 4-5).

Track and Field

Wake Forest: Casidy Callahan set the school record in the women’s discus, and John Maurins broke the meet record in the men’s shot put to win the event at the Florida Relays.
