St. Aug’s baseball sweeps CIAA weekly honors

For the second consecutive week, Saint Augustine’sswept all five CIAA baseball weekly honors.

Junior Jason Baytop was named player of the week, Freshman Darrell Langston was chosen offensive player of the week, Freshman Joshua Bumgardner was voted defensive player of the week, Senior Philip Hathcock was selected pitcher of the week and coach Charles Whitaker was named coach of the week.

Mount Olive: Joe Koehler drove in two runs and helped turn two of three double plays as nationally 16th-ranked Mount Olive clinched its 10th consecutive 30-win season and extended its current winning streak to 11 games with a 12-2 victory over Chowan.

Women’s Lacrosse

Duke: Sophomore Isabelle Montagne was named the ACC Women’s Lacrosse Co-Defensive Player of the Week Tuesday following her performance in the Blue Devils’ 13-8 victory over No. 3 Boston College on Saturday.

Softball

Campbell: Host Campbell and N.C. A&T split a softball doubleheader.

In the opener, Camise Patterson hit her sixth home run of the year and Kerstine Womack drove in a pair of runs to lead Campbell (21-21) to a 6-1 victory. A&T (12-20) claimed the nightcap 7-6.

NCCU: Junior right fielder Casey Hargett tallied two of the Lady Eagles three hits in a 7-0 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference loss to Bethune-Cookman.

Men’s Volleyball

College: Mount Olive fell to host Pfeiffer University 25-18, 25-16, 25-18 in a Conference Carolinas . The Trojans were held to their second lowest team hitting percentage of the season.

Mount Olive (13-10 overall, 10-7 Conference Carolinas) never led in the match until taking a 2-1 lead in the second set.

Women’s tennis

NCCU: The team cruised to a 7-0 MEAC victory over visiting Hampton. .

The Eagles swept singles in straight sets to complete their second straight shutout. NCCU improved to 7-13 overall while the depleted Pirates, who only had four active players, slipped to 2-12.
