Elon’s Nick Adams is Conference Carolinas Golf Freshman of Year

Elon’s Nick Adams was named Conference Carolinas Golf Freshman of the Year.

He led nationally 26th-ranked Mount Olive with a scoring average of 73.78 strokes per 18 holes. Adams recorded six top 10 finishes in nine tournaments in 2014-15, including each of the Trojans’ final five regular season tournaments. His best finish was fifth at the 54-hole Jay Jennison Memorial and his low 18-hole score was a 69 at the Lander Bearcat Invitational as the Trojans set a 54-hole team record in the tournament.

Barton: Senior Austin Doerr was named to the Conference Carolinas All-Conference First Team at the the 2015 Conference Golf Championships.

Doerr, who also earned a spot on the 2015 Academic All-Conference squad, entered the championship ranked 71st nationally by Golfstat with a season stroke average of 74.05 over 22 total rounds in 10 tournaments. Over his last two tournament appearances, Doerr, a McHenry, Md., native, has carded a career-low round of 68 and a 54-hole career-best of 219.

Duke: Sophomore Ian Yanulis earned ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors. Yanulis helped lead the Blue Devils to a 15-8 win over 15th-ranked Marquette with a career-high matching five goals and a caused turnover. Duke held the Golden Eagles to just eight goals, which marked the sixth time this season Duke has held an opponent below 10 goals, including twice in the past three games. Yanulis, a native of Duxbury, Massachusetts, has 19 ground balls and four caused turnover this season.

Elon: Sophomore Nick Beaulac is Elon baseball’s first ever CAA Rookie of the Week.

Beaulac, who made the first start of his career on Saturday at Towson, went 1-0 with a 1.80 ERA as the Phoenix took two of the three games from the Tigers.

Saint Aug’s: Coach Charles Whitaker announced two changes to the team’s schedule. The Falcons Saint Augustine's--Benedict doubleheader scheduled for Wednesday in Columbia, S.C., has been canceled.

The Falcons’ baseball series against Lincolnhas been rescheduled for 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. doubleheaders on Saturday and Sundayin Lincoln University, Pa.

The Falcons will host Francis Marion at 4 p.m. Thursday as scheduled. in Cary, N.C.

ECU: The team’s May 9 baseball game against Houston at Cougar Field will be nationally televised on the CBS Sports Network (CBSSN) at 5 p.m., as part of the American Athletic Conference’s multi-year television package.
